FAQ about Tapestry Rockford

How do I receive help?

We offer FREE personal assistance to families in the Rockford, Sparta & Cedar Springs area. Please share with anyone in your circle that could use this help. You can fill out the email form here on our website, send an email to tapestryrockford@gmail.com, private message us on Facebook or Instagram or call 616-326-1016. All shopping is done by appointment at our Shop located at 10 Mile & Algoma. If you are unable to bring your family in to browse inventory, we can make other arrangements - including item selections and porch drop off.  Note: all items are gifted as is and we recommend washing clothing and require coach approval of all donated sports equipment.

We also work directly with Rockford High School by providing items to their Care Closet and will deliver student needs to the school as requested. Educators, please reach out today if we can help a student or family in your building.

What can I donate? And how?

We accept ANY new or like-new items that would help a school-aged child meet their needs. This includes clothing, school supplies, sports equipment, personal hygiene items, new packaged undergarments, outerwear, costumes, tennis shoes and more.

We kindly request that all clothing items be in school appropriate condition, no play clothes or items with holes/stains.

Donations of clothing and other items can be dropped off at our Shop by appointment or Tapestry will do porch pickup in the Rockford area.

Our primary focus is on school-aged children, but we often receive clothing outside of this need (toddler clothing, too mature styles). Those items are then shared with Friends of Tapestry, those are other non-profit programs that cover needs that we do not. Your donations will be matched with the appropriate resource!

How can I help?

Many ways. Spread the word to those in need and to the Helpers you know in your circles. Most importantly we need Grants, Sponsors, Corporate Donors and other ways to receive the necessary funding to remain in operation. We welcome your monetary donation as this is essential to not only keep the inventory flowing, but to keep our physical shopping and storage location in Rockford.

Monetary donations are accepted via Venmo @TapestryRockford and Givebutter. As well as cash or check delivered to a Tapestry Board Officer. Receipts available upon request for cash and in kind donations.

How do you make money?

We have been asked this a lot. Tapestry does not generate income. Our material items are donated from members of the community and are then made available at no charge to other members of the community as needed. We are what you might call a middle man, bringing the items and needs together. Our volunteers donate their time and their efforts. Our only expense is the building rent for our Shop and we rely on generous cash donations to keep those doors open. Our Staff is currently not paid and all donations go back to our non-profit support and to the local community. Items that are donated to but not needed by Tapestry are passed on to other non-profits including local schools, Lean On Me, North Kent Connect, CLEAR (GRPD), and more. We do our best to match the items with the best resource to get them back out there so that nothing goes unused.

Where are you located?

Our Shop is located at 8500 Algoma Avenue, in Rockford. We are in the red roof office building directly in front of B and R Sales & Leasing. Please DO NOT enter the area beyond the fence, as this is private business property. We have a doorbell located at the front door and will greet you upon arrival for your appointment.

Please reschedule if anyone in your family is not feeling well.

Please be respectful of the other office tenants, some may be  conducting business during your appointment.
